A special architectural tour of the Mita Campus

On July 8th, as a related event to the exhibition “Sone & Chujo, Architects and Keio University I”, a special architectural tour of the Mita Campus was held. Under the guidance of Tokura Takeyuki and Yokoyama Hiroshi from the Fukuzawa Memorial Center, various buildings and historical sites on the Mita Campus, including those designed by the Sone & Chujo, Architects, were introduced. The Old Library (Important Cultural Property), the Jukukan-kyoku (Administration Building), Maboroshi no Mon (former front gate), The First School Building, Mita Public Speaking Hall (Important Cultural Property), and the Unicorn Statue. During the tour, participants had the opportunity to see unique spots, such as the underground seismic facilities that are usually inaccessible to the public in the Old Library Building, and the attic of the First Book Storage Attic, which is preserved as a remnant of war. Interior of the Jukukan-kyoku, which is not often open to the public, was also included in the tour. We were able to get high praise from the participants for our explanations provided a comprehensible understanding of the building and the distinctive characteristics of Keio University.
